Holyrood’s gardens have changed many times over the centuries, but a glimpse into what they once were is afforded by the famous ‘Rothiemay map’, which gives a bird’s-eye view of the Old Town of Edinburgh, leading from the Castle to the Palace at the far end of the Royal Mile.
