You will be wanting to know how my annual trip to the Bookmark book festival in Blairgowrie went. One of the most bijou book festivals in the country, it is always held over a weekend early in October. Run entirely by volunteers – and perhaps because of this? – it is exceptionally friendly and relaxed. You might think that, as one of its patrons, I would say that, but there really is no other festival quite like this. The atmosphere and the audiences are almost as much a reason to go as the authors, although the programmers always offer a tempting line-up that empties the Perthshire and Angus glens as folk flock to attend.
